The aim of this first part is to present the growing role of 3D printing in the daily lives of maxillo-facial surgeons. After an overview of the field, its history, technologies and general applications, the focus will be redirected to surgery. We will present the key concepts accompanying recent regulatory changes - at the heart of this book's discussions - and safety issues, and take stock of the use of 3D printing in France and Europe.
